Choosing POS Terminals & Receipt Printers for Your Shop

Choose a POS terminal, receipt printer and barcode scanner around your software, connection requirements and real checkout workflow before purchasing.

Published

Start with the sales software and business workflow

Choose a POS terminal around the software it must run, rather than screen size alone. Identify the business type, checkout count, users and whether operations cover one branch or several. Obtain the software provider’s system requirements, including operating system and supported peripherals, before approving a terminal or hardware bundle.

Distinguish the terminal, bundle and software

A terminal provides the hardware platform; a bundle may add a printer, cash drawer or other accessories. A hardware package does not automatically include software subscriptions, setup or licences. Ask for an itemized scope covering equipment, quantities, software, installation and training. Confirm what comes with the exact model instead of relying on a promotional package image.

Select a receipt printer around actual requirements

Check paper width, counter space and paper-roll access, then confirm the connection method your software supports. Printers are offered with different interfaces, including USB and networking; Epson lists such variations in its product specifications. Match the model, interface and driver to the application. A matching connector alone does not prove that every printing function is supported.

Review scanners, scales and the cash drawer

List the barcode types used on your products and how weights must be entered if you sell weighed goods. Ask the software provider which peripherals have been tested and how each connects, especially for labels, drawer opening and weight transfer. Do not assume every scale or scanner integrates directly. Test sample labels and an actual checkout scenario before approving multiple devices.

Test an entire transaction at handover

Try product entry, quantity changes, receipt printing and a return using the appropriate software permissions. Check Arabic text and barcode readability, then test restart and reconnection. Define who supports the software, who maintains the equipment and how business data is protected within the system settings. A POS terminal does not replace a separate electronic payment service where one is needed.

Request POS equipment for your Dammam premises

Share the business type, software name, checkout and branch counts, and required peripherals. Include existing model numbers for an upgrade. City Technology offers CITYPOS devices and POS accessories, with compatibility and supply and installation scope reviewed before quotation. Software and licences are scoped separately; no single model should be assumed suitable for every business.
